Dear Supporters of Marriage and Families
With all of the worthy causes in our Community, why
should you consider spending budget resources to help strengthen marriage?
Cicero gave the answer some 2000 years ago when he said, “ The first bond
of society is marriage”.
Marriage is the foundation of the family, and the family
is the foundation of society. If we strengthen marriage, we strengthen the
family, we strengthen the children and we strengthen the community.
We have a powerful need and desire for coupling that
drives us into and out of relationships.
In recent times we seem to have developed a "need" to be
happy and the decreasing tolerance for delayed gratification. When we are
single, we want to be in a relationship. When we are in an unhappy
relationship most of us attempt to improve it and eventually leave if it
doesn't get better.
A generation or two ago, men and women dated, married,
had families, and rarely divorced. Everyone seemed to know the rules and
followed them. "Fulfillment" was not a priority and unhappiness was not
cause for divorce. Then our society changed, the rules changed, life and
relationships became much more complex. We want to be happy, but we don't
know how. We are traveling to a vague destination without a map or
compass, and are not aware of what is causing us to be off track.
Do you know someone who is divorced or unhappily
married? National Marriage Centers in association with the National
PreMarital Institute can save relationships, prevent divorce and maintain
an intact family.
National Marriage Centers, founded in 2000, is an
independent, non-partisan, non- sectarian, Non-Profit, Registered 501 (c)
(3)organization focused on strengthening marriage and reducing family
breakdown through, couple empowering education and ongoing couple
Support for marriage does not require turning back the
clock on desirable social change, promoting male tyranny, or tolerating
domestic violence. We seek to bring hope and support to the nine out of
ten Americans who at some point in their lives choose marriage as a vessel
for their dream of a lasting, loving family bond.
The decline of marriage is not inevitable. Social
recovery is possible and desirable. The goal of our organization is not
perfection, but progress; not to eliminate divorce or unwed childbearing,
but to reduce it further; not to make every marriage last, but to help
more marriages succeed.
What can we do to strengthen marriage?
We can come together to support and energize this
emerging effort to renew marriage and the marriage vision. You can join
with the National Marriage Centers to help more men and women achieve a
caring, collaborative, and committed bond in their relationship.
You can join with us to reduce divorce and unmarried
child rearing, so that each year more children will grow up protected by
their own two happily married parents, and so that each year more adults’
marriage dreams will come true.
All concerned citizens have a stake in the preservation
of the family. Our program is exactly what is needed to attain that goal.
